The majority of households in the UAE now have an internet connection, a new study has found.
According to a survey by the country's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), 63 per cent of UAE household have an internet connection, of which 88 per cent are broadband connections.
The most popular internet-based activities undertaken in the UAE were found to be emailing and visiting social networking sites.
In addition, the research revealed that consumers are generally satisfied with their ICT services as 93 per cent said they were satisfied with their overall fixed line services, while 86 per cent were satisfied with their overall mobile services and 89 per cent with their overall internet services.
"The survey results provide a realistic picture of the development achieved in the ICT sector during recent years," commented TRA director general Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim.
Last week, meanwhile, a MasterCard survey found that the proportion of UAE consumers planning to travel overseas in the near future has increased markedly on last year.
