More travellers in the UAE are using low-cost carriers (LCC) for short-haul flying than they were a year ago.
According to YouGov Siraj's Travel Tracker, which surveyed 299 business and 338 leisure travellers from the UAE, a greater proportion of people are using LCCs for short-haul flying both for business (64 per cent in 2010 against 48 per cent in 2009) and leisure (67 per cent in 2010 against 61 per cent in 2009) purposes.
The research also found that two-thirds of leisure travellers and three-in-five business travellers from the UAE expect to travel more on LCCs in the next year.
"While budgets are likely to increase in the near future, travellers have had enough of cutting back and are turning to LCCs as a way to get more out of the budget they have now," said Scott Booth, research manager for travel and tourism at YouGov Siraj.
The news comes after flydubai, Dubai's first low-cost airline, last week confirmed its 30th destination will be the agricultural city of Gassim in Saudi Arabia.
