Dubai Metro has transported nearly ten million passengers since its launch in September last year, it has been revealed.

The network carried 9,872,545 passengers through 11 stations on the Red Line between September 9th and February 9th, Dubai's road and transport authority said.

Ramadan Abdullah, director of rail operations for the authority, noted that the Mall of the Emirates station was the most popular stop for both commuters and tourists during the period with 1,578,447 passengers. The station is the closest to Burj Khalifa the world's tallest building which opened at the beginning of the year.

"The success of the Metro is a real success for the city of Dubai and a true manifestation of the bustling passenger traffic," said Mr Abdullah.

"What we see today is an evidence of the urban mutation witnessed by the city of Dubai in various fields, the latest of which is the Dubai Metro."
