The opening of Concourse Three (C3) at Dubai International Airport will see the airport's total capacity expand from 60 million passengers per annum to 75 million passengers, it has been claimed.
Dubai Airports' chief executive officer Paul Griffiths told Emirates Business 24/7: "As part of the Terminal Three complex, upon completion, C3 will become the world's first Airbus A380-dedicated facility of its size."
The concourse will be given over for exclusive use by Dubai-based airline Emirates and while being similar in appearance to Concourse Two, will cover a smaller area of 528,000 square metres.
Mr Griffiths said that C3 is on track to open its gates by the end of 2012.
This week, Dubai International Airport also announced that it saw a 17 per cent rise in passenger traffic in January compared to a year ago.
In total, the airport handled 3.86 million passengers in January compared to 3.3 million in January 2009.
Freight volumes reached 171,453 tonnes, up from 130,375 tonnes in the same period a year earlier.
