Ras Al Khaimah is set to be one of "next year's holiday surprises", a newspaper travel guide has claimed.
Annabelle Thorpe of the UK's Telegraph notes that despite the impact of globalisation, there remain "new corners" of the world to discover.
Among them is Ras Al Khaimah, she says, noting that the emirate "is fast becoming the destination of choice for weekending Dubai residents and others in search of the ultimate fly and flop alternative".
Indeed, the writer claimed that the beauty of Ras Al Khaimah lies in its close, easily drivable distance from Dubai, combined with its more relaxing setting.
"This tiny emirate has two spectacular resorts: the Cove Rotana, with its own stretch of beach, and the Banyan Tree Al Wadi, which offers a luxury desert experience from the comfort of safari-style villas, each with its own plunge pool," commented Ms Thorpe.
Other destinations to feature in the list included Espiritu Pampa in Peru, Libya and the Izmir Coast in Turkey.
