RAK Airways, the national carrier of Ras Al Khaimah, has relaunched scheduled services following a two-year hiatus brought on by the global downturn.
The airline has confirmed that its resumption of services comprises of four flights each per week to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Calicut in India.
A water cannon salute marked the departure of RAK Airways' first flight to Jeddah yesterday morning (October 10th).
Commenting on the relaunch, Omar Jahameh, chief executive officer of RAK Airways, explained that the first two destinations were carefully chosen.
"Jeddah is the gateway to Saudi Arabia's holiest sites and we expect a steady stream of traffic there, not least for those wishing to perform Umrah or Haj," he said.
"Calicut is the natural gateway to the Indian state of Kerala from where so many of the UAE's expatriate workforce originate."
Mr Jahameh added that the airline had received over 400 bookings within four hours of its new website unveiling last month.
