Commuting throughout Dubai is set to get even easier! Just five months on from the launch of 10 new stations along the Dubai Metro Red Line, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced it is ready to open a further five strategic stops. Friday 15th October will see Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT), Nakheel, Sharaf DG, First Gulf Bank and Business Bay swing into operation. The new additions will bring the number of active stations to 26, leaving just three stops on the Red Line left to complete.
Three of the stations due to open on Friday will be significant for commuters living in and around Al Barsha and the business district of Tecom, home to the First Group’s two Hotel Apartment developments; Metro Central and Grand Central. Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT), Nakheel and Sharaf DG will all provide additional gateways for these surrounding areas, as well as helping to ease the pressure on the busy Dubai Internet City station. This stop is located on the edge of Tecom, right outside Metro Central and a few minutes stroll from Grand Central – meaning future residents and guests at both can look forward to an easy commute to the rest of the city!
To coincide with the opening of the new stations, the RTA is also increasing the Dubai Metro’s frequency and timing, with one train to arrive every six and eight minutes during peak and off-peak hours respectively. 28 new feeder buses and six new routes will also make commuting in and around the stations even more convenient. The launch of the new stops is yet another milestone for the Dubai Metro, which has already soared over the 30 million passenger mark in its very first year of operation.
