Dubai is preparing to open the 15th edition of its extravagant, annual shopping festival tonight (January 28th).
Organisers of the 32-day shopping, entertainment and cultural event are expecting a larger visitor turnout this year from the Gulf and Asian countries, Gulf News reported.
Laila Suhail, chief executive of event organiser Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, told the news provider: "Based on our marketing strategy for this year, with focus on GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] and Asian markets, we're looking forward to seeing more visitors from there."
Last year's festival saw a marked rise in visitor numbers, up 4.6 per cent to 3.35 million. A total of Dh9.8 billion was spent by festival attendees.
Highlights during the festival will include the Lexus Mega Raffle draws which will see 32 Lexus LS 460 cars, four Lexus LX 570 sport utility vehicles, and cash of over Dh3 million given away to the winners.
Government funding and private sector sponsorship for this year's festival has reached a combined total of Dh65 million this year.
