Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) will widen its activity by targeting commercial companies in the emirate.
Furat Ali Al Amri, acting director of commercial transport activities at the RTA, announced that the department is currently considering expansion through commercial registration and licensing services for businesses and corporate customers.
Mr Ali Al Amri said that by setting up the Al Barsha Center at the beginning of the year, the RTA had already begun to offer these services. He added the authority is now in the process of activating the service at the Al Aweer Center before extending it to all agency centres thereafter.
"During 2010 we are keen on stretching the scope of our commercial transport activities and the scale of our services to cover the entire Dubai emirate. That is why we have targeted Jebel Ali and Al Aweer areas as they are commercial zones bordering other emirates and swarmed with commercial companies," said Mr Ali Al Amri.
Following its launch by the RTA in September last year, the Dubai Metro has been a popular transportation option in the emirate. Passenger numbers broke the three million mark in its first two months.
