Dubai's ruler has said that the opening of Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, is evidence that the UAE is robust and ready to confront any challenge.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum spoke following the grand launch of Burj Khalifa earlier this week. He said in comments published by news agency WAM that the global economic crisis had caused more damage to other economic superpowers around the world than it had to the UAE.

In noting that there are still many huge projects being developed in Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed praised the people, economy and infrastructure of the area.

"This is yet another proof that our national economy is robust and that our leadership, institutions and private sector are capable of surmounting difficulties and confronting challenges with resolution, fearlessness and confidence," he said.

At 828 metres, Burj Khalifa is officially the world's tallest building. The complex will feature luxurious hospitality and recreation including the world's first Armani Hotel and the world's largest mall.
