The opening of the world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa, has been a huge source of pride to the residents of Dubai and the UAE, a new survey has found.
A YouGov Siraj survey of 811 UAE residents revealed that 90 per cent had felt pride at the building's inauguration in Dubai last week which featured a spectacular firework, laser and water show.
Most respondents (72 per cent) said they had watched the opening on television while 12 per cent viewed it in proximity to the Burj - Downtown Dubai or Dubai Mall areas. More than half of the respondents also said that the ceremony had exceeded their expectations.
The building, which cost $1.5 billion to build and was worked on by approximately 12,000 people, had been in the making for five years.
Last week, Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said in comments published by the news agency WAM, that the opening of Burj Khalifa is evidence that the UAE economy is robust and ready to confront any challenge.
