An England cricketing hero is to spend three months relaxing in Dubai as part of a period of recovery.
Lancashire-born all-rounder Andrew Flintoff will be sent to the emirate as part of a post-operative relaxation and rehabilitation programme that it is hoped will help him nurse his knee back to full fitness.
The sportsman who is affectionately known as Freddie to his colleagues - and the general public – explained that the destination was chosen for its warm climate and easy access to the facilities he will need.
"Where we are staying in Dubai, all I have to do is press the right button in the lift to get from our apartment to the gym and everything I need is on the doorstep," Flintoff said in a post on his official website.
He added that not being able to drive for at least six weeks may have caused him problems in the UK, but this will not be a problem while he is enjoying a recovery period in the UAE.
Last month, the England all-rounder ended his test career by helping his national side win The Ashes.
