Those looking at apartments and thinking of buying in Dubai may be interested to hear the latest statistics regarding its network of water buses.
According to a report issued this week by the Marine Agency at the regional Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), last month the number of people using the system went up by 32 per cent on the previous year.
It was noted that this amounted to around 39,781 passengers who had been served by 11,284 water bus trips throughout August 2009.
Hussain Ali Al Saffar, director of operation and maintenance at the RTA's Marine Agency, said the numbers indicated an improved level of performance for the transport option and overall "healthy growth".
He drew particular attention to the number of commuters that were taking advantage of the B1 Line which links Bur Dubai to the Al Sabkha Station, which saw 5,421 passengers served during the month compared to the 2,747 from 2008.
The RTA recently reported around 266,000 commuters used the newly-opened Dubai Metro system during the Eid holidays.
