Retailers in commercial property in Dubai have seen growth in business, which has been put down to the success of a campaign.
The Dubai Shopping Malls Group recorded a 17 per cent rise in sales this summer, compare to last year's data.
Chairman of the organisation Majid Al Ghurair explained the opening of four new shopping facilities - Arabian Centre, Dubai Marina Mall, Oasis Centre and Dubai Mall - contributed to the figures.
The initiative Surprising Millions also had a positive effect, he added, noting footfall in the malls had succeeded expectations. As part of the programme, shoppers were entered into a raffle draw and 90 people won prizes.
Mr Ghurair said: "This is a reflection of the success of … [the scheme] and reiterates the strong role that the retail sector plays in the economy of Dubai."
In conclusion, he asserted he hopes future programmes will prove to be equally, of not more, successful and will help position Dubai as a leading shopping and entertainment centre.
The Surprising Millions campaign was part of the DSMG's plans to "elevate shopping", which they announced last year.
