Dubai will invest AED63 billion in airport expansion and development, the chair of Dubai Airports and president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has announced.
Speaking at the Paris Air Show, Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum reaffirmed the emirate's commitment to current and future airport projects to support the rapid growth expected in the coming years.
"Dubai has been a beacon of light during these turbulent times. During the first quarter Dubai Airports recorded 2.1 per cent passenger traffic growth. That increased to 6.5 per cent in April and 7.1 per cent in May," he told attendees at the expo.
Investment in Dubai has already resulted in a dramatic capacity growth, with the facilities now capable of processing 60 million passengers every year.
He said that continued investment will allow tourism and commerce in the emirate to prosper in line with the government's growth strategy.
Gulf News also reports that Etihad Airways has announced an AED54.1 billion aircraft engine order at the Paris Air Show, which could make it the largest engine order in history.
