Dubai is fast becoming a major cruise destination, with visitor numbers expected to grow 25 per cent this year, new figures show.
According to Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), more than 260,000 cruise visitors are expected to dock in the emirate in 2009, with further growth expected as the Dubai Cruise Terminal opens.
The increasing importance of Dubai as a premier cruise destination was recognised last month at the World Travel Awards, when the emirate scooped the Middle East's Leading Port award.
"Dubai provides the ideal international cruise centre where visitors can stop over and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city, or experience the tranquility of the desert," said Ian Scott, director UK and Ireland for the DTCM.
For those who are keen on the emirate, checking out property for sale in Dubai while anchors are down may also be a good idea.
The DTCM has recently met with members of the hotel and tourism industry to ensure that the action packed roster of promotional campaigns and events in the emirate is moving along as scheduled.
