The Dubai Police has trained 128,500 workers from 15 companies about safe road crossing since the middle of April, it has been claimed.
Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, director of the General Department of Traffic Brigadier, told the Khaleej Times that the Safe Crossing campaign is aimed to decrease traffic casualties and run-over accidents.
He said that run-over accidents have decreased between 2007 and 2008.
Such news may be encouraging for people with young children who are making the move to Dubai to progress their careers.
Dubai Police is working with the Roads and Transport Authority to install more pedestrian crossing bridges in areas including Emirates Road, the service road of Shaikh Zayed Road and Amman Road and the Al Quoz Industrial area, deputy director of the General Department of Traffic Lt-Col Saif Muhair Al Mazroui said.
The newspaper was previously told by Badr Mahmoud, director of the Emirates Transport Foundation, that a new school bus safety school will be implemented in Dubai later this year.
