The UAE has built on its strength as an oil exporter and has now diversified into many global markets to ensure its resilience and sustainable growth, the foreign trade minister has announced.
Speaking at a meeting of industry heads across the Gulf region, the Ministry of Foreign Trade (MoFT) director general Abdullah Bin Ahmed Al Saleh said that the country had drawn on lessons of the past to ensure that its economy was based on diversity and competition.
"We have been promoting non-oil exports to enhance our competitiveness and integrate more into the global market. Our success in this regard has been commended and certified by several prominent organisations," he said.
Among those groups to praise the integration of Dubai into the global economy is the World Trade Organisation, he added.
Figures published by the ministry last month show that Asian countries remained a key partner for the UAE between 2006 and 2007.
