The UAE's health sector is continuing to position itself as a global investment haven, the director general of the Ministry of Health has claimed.
Speaking to Emirates Business, Dr Ali bin Shakar said that both the private and public health sectors have enjoyed considerable growth, with the signing of a new three-year awareness campaign contract with Sanofi-aventis Pharmaceuticals Gulfs being the latest in a string of major investments made in the country's health system.
"We have also seen many international pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing companies interested to set up their regional offices in the UAE because of its booming sector," he said.
Such inward investment may lead to a concomitant boom in the UAE's commercial property sector.
In other recent developments, the Ministry of Health has this month set up a new national committee to tackle diabetes in the emirate.
Dr Shakar is chairing the committee, which has responsibility for the development of a new national strategy to combat the disease.
