Dubai saw its ascendency as a global business and leisure tourism hub continue unabated in 2008, with total revenues reaching AED15.25 billion.
Other headline results from Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) include a double-digit increase in rooms inventory over the course of the year as developers soaked up the burgeoning demand for high-class accommodation in the emirate.
In 2008, the total number of hotel rooms and apartments available in the emirate soared 15.9 per cent to stand at 49,598, outstripping the growth seen in 2007, when overall inventories grew 4.8 per cent.
Looking ahead to 2009, Khalid A bin Sulayem, director general of DTCM, commented: "Dubai's tourism product offering is going from strength to strength thanks to the diversity of its activities and accommodation offerings."
DTCM has maintained a strong advertising campaign to promote Dubai across the Middle East and the rest of the world.
A high-profile delegation recently travelled to Istanbul to strengthen the tourism trade between Dubai and Turkey.
