While Dubai has become synonymous with luxury and prestige in recent years, its cultural diversity and rich heritage is continuing to attract a broad selection of tourists and travellers, one expert claims.
Lara Dunston, the author of DK Eyewitness Dubai, has noted that while the luxury property for sale in Dubai and its high-end entertainment industry will continue to grab headlines, there is something on offer for all types of visitors, from backpackers to families.
"For people who live there like myself, there is so much more to Dubai than the glitzy side to the city we read about in the foreign press. That is just one aspect," she said.
She noted that Bedouin traditions and Islamic heritage have been prevalent since the city state's creation as a trading port centuries ago and added that this rich heritage continues to draw many visitors.
Figures from Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing show that the emirate attracts around 700,000 visitors from the UK and Ireland alone over the course of a year.
