The United Arab Emirates is Switzerland's strongest financial partner, the European country's minister for energy, environment, transport and communication has confirmed.
Speaking at the World Future Energy Summit, Moritz Leuenberger attested to the "visionary leadership" of the UAE government in promoting the sustainable use of the world's energy reserves.
Mr Leuenberger went on to claim that in terms of trade volumes, the UAE was Switzerland's most important partner, with strong relations across many industries.
"And please allow me a personal remark: for me [the UAE is] the most important culture. Therefore I am looking forward to visiting an exhibition with Emirati artists," he added.
Meanwhile, Switzerland aimed to impress the UAE with its technological advancements in the field of renewable energy, with 23 national exhibitors showing off the latest in photovoltaics, biogas and other products.
The summit finished yesterday (January 21st), brought to a memorable and climactic end by former UK prime minister Tony Blair, who urged the region not to lose sight of the environmental crisis.
