Total passenger numbers soared to 37.44 million last year, compared to 34.35 million in 2007.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Dubai Airports, said that passenger volumes had been buoyed by the "flawless" opening of new Terminal 3, describing the building as the benchmark which other global hubs should look to emulate.
Dubai Airport has also recently announced the launch of a new Executive Flights Centre, which will help to meet the needs of the millions of high-end travellers who use the airport's services.
And in news which may be of interest to those who are heading to the emirate looking for Dubai property for sale, the new VIP terminal is kitted out with the very latest in technology to ensure a flawless travel experience.
"This development is part of our strategy to cope with the rapid growth of the business aviation sector in Dubai," said Mr Al Maktoum.
