Those with property in the UAE based near the Bawadi Mall may have attended one of its recent diabetes events.

Community outreach campaigns took place at the venue in order to raise health awareness and were centred on a wider initiative by the host to emphasise the importance of it having a key societal role.

Khalid Shraim, marketing manager of the centre, said: "We expect that these campaigns will achieve positive results through enhanced awareness of the seriousness of diabetes and by encouraging more people to do the tests."

Mr Shraim added that the government is currently working towards fighting the illness through such programmes, which focus on a range of different classes of the local population.

The Bawadi Mall event was facilitated by the United Arab Emirates university, which was founded by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan in 1976.

UAE university considers itself to be one of the most comprehensive national educational establishments in the region and currently has around 12,000 students in attendance.
