Dubai property to 'go green' next year
New regulations intended to make buildings in Dubai more economical and environmentally friendly will be introduced from 2009, it has been claimed.

The comments were made at this year's The Big 5 Technical Conference which is currently taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

A range of property sector professionals have registered for the event, which is designed to raise awareness of issues and create a forum for discussion.

Speaking at the event, which will come to an end on November 27th 2008, Adi Afaneh, senior environmental planner at Dubai Municipality, explained that he expected the regulations to only apply to new buildings initially.

He said: "Dubai's new green building regulations will soon be submitted to the Executive Council which would decide the timetable for implementation, starting in 2009.

"The regulations will apply to all new buildings initially but eventually will be extended to cover existing buildings as they are renovated."

Exhibitor numbers for this year's event have increased by 70 per cent, according to organisers.
