The One Kempinski Abuja occupies a prime location in the heart of the Central Business District. Constructed largely in the 1980s, the city of Abuja was purpose built to a master plan, with a view to replacing the crowded coastal capital of Lagos. In 1991, Abuja officially took over the role, and over the last two decades it has witnessed tremendous growth, with some areas experiencing a population surge of 20-30%. Abuja is now home to an estimated one million people and at its current growth rate it is forecast to reach 3.5 million by 2015. As an established base for the Nigerian Federal government, the city of Abuja is also a proud symbol of national unity. Often hailed as Africa's best purpose built city, Abuja now has well developed road networks, a reliable transport system, entertainment and leisure facilities and a burgeoning real estate industry that is currently attracting global attention.
