Happy Mondays set to perform in Dubai

The Happy Mondays are reportedly lining up a live show in Dubai next month.According to Time Out Dubai, the original line-up from the "Madchester" era will be back together for the gig at the Dubai Tennis Stadium.Although a firm date for the concert has not been published as yet, it is likely to create a lot of excitement in the emirate - especially among the expat community who still have fond memories of the Mondays' heyday in the late 1980s/early 1990s.They last appeared at the venue back in 2009, but that was without iconic dancer Bez, who is expected to return for the special gig in the Gulf.The group will be extremely busy this year, as they have organised a string of concert dates in Australia in May and they will also embark on a tour of the UK.Led by Shaun Ryder, the Happy Mondays are one of the most famous bands to emerge from Manchester and they have amassed a huge following around the world.Their biggest hits were Step On and Kinky Afro, which both made it into the top five of the UK music charts in the early 1990s.Amazingly, the Happy Mondays are not the only band from the Madchester generation to reform and put on a live performance in Dubai this year.The Stone Roses - who got back together in 2011 for the first time in two decades - took to the stage at the Media City Amphitheatre last week and they rolled back the years to put on a stunning show.These are just two examples of Dubai's thriving music scene and it is not just famous Mancunian groups that are heading out to the UAE.Rap icons Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Kanye West have all performed live in the UAE in recent months and global megastars like Justin Bieber are also scheduled to appear before the end of the year.The fact that the biggest names from the music world are putting on memorable shows in Dubai highlights the point that the emirate is the place to be at the moment.
