Bob Geldof: Dubai is a dynamic city

Legendary musician and anti-poverty activist Bob Geldof is set to perform in Dubai next month. The Irishman will kick off the emirate's St Patrick's Day celebrations by putting on a live show in the Irish Village on March 14th.Organised by the Transguard Group, the concert will see Geldof perform a number of his solo tunes, as well as a selection of hits from his days as the lead singer of the Boomtown Rats.Geldof recently announced that the band would get back together for the Isle of Wight Festival in June, but before then he will delight his Middle Eastern fans when he takes to the stage in the UAE.This will be the eighth time the singer/songwriter has put on a special gig in the city and last year he was watched by thousands of people.Geldof clearly has affection for this part of the world, as he said: "I've been going to Dubai for the St Patrick's Day celebrations for many years. It's a dynamic city I always look forward to visiting and catching up with so many of my good friends at Transguard."I'm always excited about performing at the Irish Village, it's the perfect venue and the Irish really know how to party."Dubai has developed a knack for attracting the biggest names in the music business to put on live shows in the city.Performers generally make lots of money when they hold concerts in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, which explains why so many headline names are set to grace the UAE in 2013.English indie legends The Stone Roses are heading to Dubai for the first time since they reformed in 2012, while hip hop icon Kanye West recently appeared in Abu Dhabi.Arguably the biggest star on the planet at the moment, teen heartthrob Justin Bieber, is also set to perform in the Middle East this year. He will appear at The Sevens Stadium on May 4th as part of his Believe World Tour.
