Dubai’s hotel and tourism industry are gearing up for a busy summer season, as the ever popular Dubai Summer Surprises Festival (DSS) draws nearer. If recent figures released by Dubai’s Economic Department are anything to go by, the city can look forward to a hugely profitable few weeks, with last year’s five weeks of festivities clocking up more than $2.4 billion in revenue.
According to the report by the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, DSS 2011 attracted more than 4 million international, regional and local visitors, providing a major boost for the city’s tourism industry and in particular, the emirate’s hotels and hotel apartments, which often run special deals during the festival. Electronic goods and fashion items proved the most popular amongst buyers, accounting for 47% and 45% of total purchases. DSS this year begins on the 14th June and ends on the 14th July.
