Dubai hotel officially declared tallest on the planet

 />The imposing JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai has been officially recognised as the tallest hotel on earth by Guinness World Records.<br /><br />With two huge 77-floor towers, the iconic building is only 26 metres short of New York's colossal Empire State Building.<br /><br />The first block was opened to guests in November and six of the complex's nine restaurants are already in operation, with the other three set to be unveiled in early 2013.<br /><br />Bosses at the hotel chain confirmed the second tower is scheduled to open its doors in late 2014.<br /><br />Once complete, the entire facility will boast 804 rooms in each block and a total of 14 eating establishments. The UAE is constantly receiving international accolades for its stunning array of buildings and it is already home to the world's largest tower - the majestic Burj Khalifa.

Located in Downtown Dubai, the skyscraper measures in at 828 metres high and has more than 160 stories.

As well as being the tallest building in the world, it also holds the record for being the largest structure and free-standing structure. It took these two records from the KVLY-TV mast in Blanchard, North Dakota and Toronto's CN Tower respectively.

One thing is for sure, building developers in Dubai are not afraid of a challenge and some of the new projects that are in the pipeline for next year and beyond will push the limits of probability even further.
