Dubai excels at the World Travel Awards

If there was any further proof needed to suggest that Dubai is one of the best holiday hotspots on the planet, the World Travel Awards (WTAs) has provided it.The final of the prestigious prize-giving took place in India last night (December 12th) and Dubai featured heavily.First and foremost, the emirate scooped the World's Leading Cruise Port award, adding to the Middle East's Leading Cruise Port prize it won earlier in the year. Thanks to its luxurious shops and restaurants, as well as its wonderful weather, the city is a fantastic place for cruise passengers to explore.Dubai has simply dominated this category of the WTAs in recent years and has been handed the gong every year since 2008.The emirate also landed the World's Leading Sports Tourism Destination award, which is testament to the huge amount of work that has gone into promoting games like football, cricket and rugby across the city. This award reflects the hugely impressive array of world-class sporting facilities that have sprung up in recent years. In addition to this, Dubai was named the Middle East's Leading Meetings and Conference Destination, which is hardly surprising considering how many fantastic corporate events are now staged in places like the Dubai World Trade Centre. The WTAs are referred to as the "Oscars of the Travel Industry" and only the very finest destinations, tourist boards, airlines and hotels are capable of winning one of the accolades.Unsurprisingly, Dubai's magnificent hotels were also recognised at the event. The stunning Burj Al Arab was the big winner on the night, as it walked away with three awards, including the coveted World's Leading Hotel prize. It also received the World's Leading All Suite Hotel and World's Leading Luxury All Suite Hotel awards.Meanwhile, the Armani Hotel Dubai was named the World's Leading Landmark Hotel and Atlantis The Palm was voted as the World's Leading Landmark Resort. The Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah came up trumps in the World's Leading Lifestyle Residences and Penthouse categories and there were also awards for Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa and Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa.With such an impressive haul at the most respected travel awards on the planet, it is no wonder so many people are heading to Dubai on holiday.
