New tunnel to link Dubai landmarks
Property investors with interests in the Middle East could be among those encouraged by the news of a new tunnel linking two of Dubai's key landmarks.It has been confirmed that a new pedestrian walkway is to be built joining the Burj Khalifa Metro station and Dubai mall.Up to ten moving "travellators" will be included in the 820-metre tunnel, which is expected to be completed next year.According to Emaar Malls Group, which operates Dubai Mall, the walkway will be able to carry up to 13,500 people per hour.Mohamed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties, explained: "The Dubai Mall is one of the most visited tourist, retail, and leisure destinations in the world."While the mall offers covered parking for over 14,000 vehicles, we have been evaluating various alternatives to further streamline visitor traffic and add to their convenience. The Dubai Mall Metro link will also serve visitors to Burj Khalifa and the various attractions in Downtown Dubai."
