Ex-pats set for online ID card application

In a bid to improve the lifestyles of those living in the UAE, officials have announced the launch of a new online ID card application.In order to speed up the registration process, the Emirates Identity Authority has revealed a new online application, which allows Emiratis to apply or renew their ID cards online.As well as saving time, the online process also means that applicants no longer have to pay a Dh30 typing fee.While, the application is currently only available to Emiratis, expatriates will be able to benefit from the system within two months, Gulf news reported.Dr Ali Al Khoury, director-general of Emirates ID,  told the news provider that only card-holders whose fingerprints are not clear on the Emirates ID's system will be required to visit the Emirates ID registration centre to have their fingerprints taken again.The news comes shortly after PwC hailed the UAE as one of the best countries in the world for ease of paying taxes - the organisation's Paying Taxes study placed the nation sixth out of 183 economies.
