Dubai to benefit from new bicycle parking spaces

Property investors in Dubai could see the emirate become a more desirable place to live after authorities announced new plans to clear the streets of unsightly bicycles. At present, cyclists in the emirate use any available space, including trees, lamp posts and traffic lights, to secure their bikes during the day. However, new plans will see up to 3,000 bicycle parking spaces built near the Dubai Metro stations. The spaces will be created in the first quarter of this year, Maitha Bin Udai, chief executive of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority confirmed."Such practices inflict damage to public property, block visibility for motorists and road users, and distort the general appearance of neighbourhoods, particularly in tourist areas," she explained."The project comprises the construction of about 3,000 bike stands near the Metro stations. Phase 1 of the project was completed earlier, with 212 stands built at eight stations on the Red Line."
