Some of the finest golfers on the planet will descend on the UAE for the DP World Tour Championship this week.A global audience of around 850 million people are expected to watch the European Tour finale on TV when it gets underway on Thursday (November 22nd).It is the culmination of a 45-date calendar that has taken the sport's leading lights to 24 different countries over an 11-month period.Held at the magnificent Jumeirah Golf Estates, the event will once again put Dubai on the international sporting map.The star-studded field features no fewer than 52 European Tour champions and five former number ones, including Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer and Justin Rose.Rory McIlroy is the current top ranked professional on the European circuit and all eyes will be on the talented Northern Irishman when he takes to the course.He said this season has already been "amazing" and he is hoping to round off the campaign in style in Dubai.It has the potential to be a thrilling event and McIlroy will be under immense pressure throughout the competition.Luke Donald is in great form heading into the tournament, having secured victory in the Dunlop Phoenix on the Japan Golf Tour last week. This was enough to lift him up to second in the world rankings.Ian Poulter is also expected to be among the leaders and he recently impressed in the Australian Masters in Melbourne.European Tour international director of the Dubai office Nick Tarratt is excited that so many people will be tuning into the action on the Greg Norman-designed Earth course this week."Obviously with free season tickets for the tournament, the best way to watch the players in action is by coming along to Jumeirah Golf Estates for what we believe is the greatest weekend on Earth," he remarked."But for those who can't make it in person, there will be a wide variety of media sources providing excellent coverage."
