Dubai International Jazz Festival line-up takes shape

The Emirates Airline Dubai International Jazz Festival is one of the most highly anticipated events of 2013 and the line-up is starting to take shape.Held at the Dubai Festival City between February 14th and 22nd, the musical extravaganza is expected to attract thousands of people.According to Tabloid!, veteran British rockers Deep Purple will headline the event and they will appear on February 21st.Known for hits such as Smoke on the Water, Black Knight and Highway Star, the group have built up a huge global fanbase over the past four decades. They are mostly associated with heavy rock music, so their top billing at a jazz event will inevitably raise a few eyebrows. However, chief executive officer of Chillout Productions Anthony Younes told the news provider that they are very adaptable."Deep Purple played many international jazz fests, including the most famous one, Montreux Jazz Festival, and this [was] where they came up with Smoke on the Water," he was quoted as saying."The 2013 edition of the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival will include some of the finest musicians, who will perform a diverse portfolio of musical genres."Tickets for the event will go on sale next month and this is the eleventh time the festival has been held in the emirate.Last year, artists such as Jools Holland and James Blunt headed to the UAE to entertain the huge crowds at the jazz showpiece. Some of the biggest musical acts in the world are planning to put on live shows in Dubai next year.Last week, Gulf News reported that Manchester icons The Stone Roses would stage a gig at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre - ironically on the same night that Deep Purple are scheduled to appear.Led by singer Ian Brown, the group are immensely popular all around the world and they have sold-out numerous shows since they reformed this year.Tickets for this concert have already gone on sale.
