Dubai gears up for Car Free Day

Property investors and others conducting business in Dubai are gearing up for the emirate's annual Car Free Day.Tomorrow (January 18th) marks the latest edition of the environment initiative, which will encourage the local community to reduce the number of vehicles on city roads.The plans aim to raise awareness of alternative forms of transport including the emirate's extensive bus network and the Dubai Metro.More than 2,500 employees in the Dubai Municipality headquarters are set to leave their cars at home and use other public transport and it is hoped that many others will follow suit.Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai municipality, said that in order to encourage more people to take part, municipality parking lots would be closed."Top officials of municipality and participants will start from Qusais metro station at 07:30 and reach Union metro station, where an environmental exhibition will be organised," he claimed.
