Abu Dhabi International Airport announces record passenger numbers

Passenger traffic at the Abu Dhabi International Airport increased 13.9 per cent on year in 2011 to 12.4 million passengers. That is according to James Bennett, ADAC's chief executive officer, who said that the continuous rise in passenger traffic growth that the emirate has seen reflects the rise in trade, industry and tourism.Furthermore, he explained that the growth demonstrates that the investment by ADAC in "creating a world class airport" is working."The capital's gateway cargo traffic was also on the rise, recording 481,500 tonnes, an increase of ten per cent in comparison to 2010," said ADAC.According to the ADAC, the continuing investment in improving the airport facilities have helped to attract new airlines. It has also encouraged existing airlines to expand their services to Abu Dhabi.Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport recently announced that it welcomed a record number of passengers through its terminals in 2011.It said that more than 51 million passengers passed through last year, an eight per cent increase on 2010.
