90,000 tonnes of cargo pass through Dubai World Central

Property investors with portfolios in the Middle East could be among those encouraged to see Dubai's boosting its credentials as a commercial hub.The emirate's Dubai World Central airport handed almost 90,000 tonnes of cargo last year, new figures have shown.Indeed, some 89,729 tonnes of air freight passed through the airport's terminals in 2011 at a monthly average of 7,477 tonnes.Paul Griffiths, chief executive officer of Dubai Airports, explained that despite the hub being relatively new, it is already showing its ability to handle vast amounts of cargo."Although the airport is in its infancy, incremental cargo traffic growth has been steady and continues to ramp up as new operations are launched," he commented."Additionally the road feeder service operating between Dubai International and Dubai World Central facilitated the smooth flow of transit airfreight. Combined, Dubai's two airports handled 2.2 million tonnes of airfreight in 2011, which is up marginally from 2010."
