As well as proving to be immensely popular among foreign property investors, the UAE also appears to be a firm favourite among technology specialists too.Places like Dubai are among the most high-tech and forward-thinking cities in the world and the demand for the latest gadgets is always sky-high.Technology manufacturers know this all too well and companies are increasingly turning to the UAE to launch their new products.Speaking to the Khaleej Times, leaders at the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company - otherwise know as du - said that the fast-paced lifestyle in this part of the Gulf makes it an ideal launch pad for new devices.Director of premium personal market commercial at the company Yasser Al Yousuf said the demand for cutting-edge smartphones is particularly high."A lot of handset manufacturers are now concentrating on the UAE to be the first market to launch their new products," he was quoted as saying."They see the growing demand for it [mobile technology] in the UAE… so we are working hand-in-hand with them to bring all the latest models here."Dubai is constantly evolving and Mr Al Yousuf believes manufacturers in the telecommunications industry need to keep up with the rapid pace of change.He confirmed that du is working with its partners on the introduction of near field communication technology, which enables handset owners to make wireless credit card payments using their phone.Mr Al Yousuf also told the news provider that du's 4G network is already tested and certified to support the immensely popular Apple iPhone 5.Dubai's status as a technology hub was highlighted recently, when the emirate hosted the unveiling of the exclusive solid gold version of the iPhone 5. It was officially launched at the Dubai Mall amid much fanfare.With such a strong reputation for being at the sharp end of the global technology market, it is no surprise that investors from all over the world are keen to boost their presence in the UAE.
