Emirates strengthens links between UAE and Australia

Emirates has announced details of a new service that will link the UAE with Australia and New Zealand. The carrier - said to be the fastest growing airline in the world - has introduced a non-stop flight between Dubai and Melbourne.Once it has landed in Australia, the Airbus A380 will then fly on to Auckland. The UAE has become a major international business hub and this new route is a huge boost for investors who are based down under. It is also good news for Dubai's tourism sector and the number of Australians and New Zealanders taking holidays in the Middle East is expected to grow thanks to the additional service.Visitor numbers continue to grow all the time and 2012 is shaping up to be a record year for tourism in the emirate.Bosses at Dubai Airports recently confirmed that more than 4.8 million people passed through Dubai International airport in August alone. This represented a 20 per cent rise on the corresponding month in 2011.Salem Obaid Allah - senior vice president of Emirates Commercial Operations Far East & Australasia - is excited about the launch of the Melbourne/Auckland service."The introduction of the A380 increases Melbourne's capacity on the Dubai and Auckland sectors by more than 500 seats per day, which will further stimulate tourism and trade between the UAE, our global network, Australia and New Zealand," he remarked. This is just one part of Emirates' major expansion plans. In November, the airline will introduce non-stop flights to Adelaide and a third daily service to Perth will be in place by December 1st.Clearly the organisation has highlighted Australia as an important destination and this is hardly surprising given the relative strength of the country's economy. The value of the Aussie dollar is currently very high and this means travellers from down under have plenty of money to spend when they venture overseas, which is obviously great news for businesses in the UAE.
