Dubai to launch new e-building service

The Dubai Municipality has announced details of a new e-building service that is aimed at improving standards in the UAE's construction industry.Places like Dubai have undergone massive expansion work in recent years and the quality of the buildings that have been erected has been world class. That said, the government is not resting on its laurels and it is keen to see things improve even further. The authorities will now have greater supervision over the construction industry through the online portal, which will enable property owners to see exactly what contractors are doing.Speaking to Gulf News, deputy director of Dubai Municipality Eissa Al Maidoorsaid said the advantages of having such a system are "enormous"."It will initially facilitate smooth communication between all municipality building consultants and contractors. In phase two, we aim to extend the services so that owners will be able to monitor what modifications have to be made to his construction project," he remarked. The e-building resources will be available in Arabic and English and it will feature details of all appointments involving building contractors and will also act as an archive so construction specialists can keep tabs on all changes that have been made to developments. This project has been in the pipeline since 2007 and it is being released at a time when Dubai's property sector is starting to thrive again following the global economic downturn in 2008-09.A report published by Jones Lang LaSalle recently suggested that Dubai is outperforming its neighbouring emirates, with properties in upmarket and expensive parts of the city very highly sought after. Many companies are also kick-starting previously shelved projects, which is a clear sign that confidence is returning to the building markets. The new e-building portals will also make it easier for investors to get fresh schemes up and running. It will enable approvals of projects under construction, fees to be paid and will also provide users with a more convenient link to make enquiries. Completion certificates can be issued via the online system too.
