Dubai posts impressive crime reduction figures

There are numerous reasons behind Dubai's growing reputation as a fantastic place to live - not least the city's impressive crime figures.People who are looking for new places to reside often assess the safety of potential destinations before they up sticks and leave their current home.Crime statistics say a great deal about a place and this is an area in which Dubai continues to excel.According to the Dubai Security and Traffic Indicator, the number of serious crimes being reported across the emirate has fallen sharply in the last six months, the Khaleej Times reports.The Dubai Police's security programme is a massive success story and forces all around the world are hoping to replicate the scheme in order to make their cities safer.Thefts and robberies dropped by 45 per cent during the six-month period when compared with the same period in 2011.Crimes against people were also down by 37.5 per cent, while cases of serious physical assault fell by 13.9 per cent.The police also clamped down on financial corruption, with the number of cases recorded dipping by 44 per cent.Colonel Jamal Al Jalaf - deputy director of criminal investigation of the crime monitoring section - told the news provider that the police have developed new techniques to help drive down crime."And these are 100 per cent created by the Dubai Police and they have proved to be a success," he was quoted as saying."The security programme was an initiative of lieutenant general Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, and it has led to the drop in crimes," Mr Al Jalaf added.Dubai's status as a great place to live was highlighted by a recent poll conducted by jobs site Bayt and YouGov.The study - which took numerous factors into account such as law enforcement, public utility standards and transport networks - discovered that 73 per cent of Dubai residents rate their overall quality of life as either "good" or "excellent".
