Women handed compensation package over property row

One of Kenya's biggest housing projects is back on track after the resolution of a high-profile court case, allafrica.com has reported.Nancy Wanja Gatabaki, 65, was awarded Sh725 million in cash and property after she had filed against Muga Developers Ltd.Ms Gatabaki said she had been sidelined from the Fourways Junction Housing project in Kiambu County. The court heard that the couple had surrendered their 200-acre land to the Suraya Group to build commercial houses. But according to Ms Gatabaki, the company was designed to defraud her and Sagana Developers of their land benefits and profits. She spent 15 hours and 15 minutes trying to reach an out of court settlement, but was ultimately able to do so.Originally, Ms Gatabaki was allocated 42 houses in the construction project.Unsurprisingly, though, Ms Gatabaki left the court with a broad smile on her face, having just become one of the richest people in the east African country.
