Passenger traffic in Middle East to reach 140m by 2015, report says

Passenger traffic to the Middle East is expected to hit 140 million in four years' time, according to a new report that highlights growing interest in the area. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) said that passenger numbers to emirates including Dubai will grow by somewhere near nine and 12 per cent between now and 2015.Furthermore, it revealed that Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad - the three biggest Gulf airlines - are to triple their passenger capacity over the next 20 years, Gulf News reports.Rend Stephan, partner and managing director for BCG in the Middle East, said in the report that Middle Eastern airlines are in a good position. "Because the Middle Eastern mega-carriers have been early developers of the region as an important hub for long-haul routes - and because they enjoy significant cost advantages - they are well positioned to compete aggressively with more financially constrained carriers," he is quoted by the news provider as saying. It comes as organisers get ready for Dubai Fashion Week in October.
