New Kenyan political party set to be unveiled

MPs from central Kenya have met today (September 6th) to unveil a new political party to be used by their candidate for president presidential candidate next year, allafrica.com has reported. The new party, likely to be used by current deputy prime minister Uhuru Kenyatta, is the upshot of a culmination of many meetings over the past few months designed to identify the approach of the party.Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Kenyan citizens living in the diaspora will be able to vote in the presidential elections in 2012.Under the new law, Kenyans, including those holding dual citizenship, will be able to seek elective positions during the elections.Amina Bakari, a Kenyan in Bonn, Germany, welcomed the news, explaining: "When you are within a country, your perspectives are narrowed."Those of us who live outside are better voters, as we have a deeper appreciation and perspective of what development entails," she added.
