Dubai Metro Green Line opens

The Dubai Metro's brand new Green Line officially opened today (September 9th), offering an improved public transport system in the growing emirate.Members of the public will be able to take their first trip on the line tomorrow after it is inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice-president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai. It will allow commuters to travel along 23 kilometres of track and stop at 18 stations. A further two stations will also intersect with the existing Red Line, which opened on the same date in 2009.Just two stations will remain closed until a later date as they are still under construction. While the system will benefit businesses and investors positioned along the line, it will also connect people living in nearby Sharjah.Gulf Today reports that the Sharjah Transport Corporation has launched new bus routes to shuttle residents to the Etisalat Station in Al Qusais, the closest connection to the city.
