Dubai airports set to welcome 51m passengers in 2011

Dubai's airports are on track to welcome 51 million travellers over the course of 2011, the latest figures show.According to new data from Dubai Airports, the company that owns and operates Dubai International, some 4.02 million passengers passed through the emirate's main aviation hub in August alone. This represents a 0.8 per cent increase on the figure recorded for August 2010, suggesting that interest in Dubai shows no sign of waning.Commenting, FBE Aerospace analyst Saj Ahmad told the Khaleej Times: "Dubai Airports' performance critically underscores the continued strength and appeal for passengers to fly to and through the airport, placing its centralised location amongst the top of choices for transit and onward travel."The figures also show that the number of international travellers from Russia and India has continued to rise over the past 12 months, reflecting improving economic ties between Dubai and the two countries.Dubai International is the busiest airport in the whole of the UAE, with the Emirates airline handling around 60 per cent of all traffic.
