Christie's set to broaden scope of auction sales in Dubai

In a bid to attract a wider audience of art lovers, Christie's has announced that it is broadening the scope of its auction sales in Dubai.The international auction house confirmed that it is to introduce a new format this autumn through which it will offer works at lower estimates to attract a younger demographic.Hala Khayat, a specialist at Christie's, explained to the National: "This will engage more UAE nationals into collecting art and investing in their own artists."There are things going on with the younger generation artists that were not there ten years ago."In addition to attracting a younger, less affluent crowd, Christie's said the move is designed to showcase grassroots talent in the region.It has been confirmed that the first of Christie's auctions will take place on October 25th and will include modern works by popular Middle Eastern artists such as Mahmoud Said, Charles Hossein Zenderoudi and Fateh Moudarres.
