Abuja hosts Nigeria Prize for Literature nominees

Abuja will host three of the nominees up for this year's prestigious Nigeria Prize for Literature tomorrow (September 30th).Ayodele Olofintuade, Mai Nasara, and Philip Begho will all attend BookJam at the Silverbird entertainment venue in the capital and will take part in book readings, signings and guest writer discussions. The monthly event will also feature a Slam poetry performance.It follows last month's appearance of the three other nominees who made up the original long list.Now, just three authors remain in the shortlist, Ayodele Olofintuade, Mai Nasara and Chinyere Obi-Obasi, who will compete for the $100,000 prize when the winner is announced later this year.The prize was this year only open to children's literature authors and a total of 126 entered the competition.Nominees were selected for writing original books "that stay with you long past the point at which you put them down", said prize judge Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo.
